Endoscopic sinus surgery is typically performed to provide relief from chronic rhinosinusitis, a condition characterized by persistent inflammation in the nose and sinuses lasting for at least three months, which does not respond adequately to medications. This inflammation can be triggered by various factors, including infections, allergies, irritants, or the presence of non-cancerous nasal or sinus polyps. The surgery can be conducted using either local anesthesia or general anesthesia.
Another recent sinus treatment technique is to use ballooning to widen sinus openings. This can be done during the sinus surgery or as an in-office treatment depending on the patient and his/her condition.
